About Tervis

Brand background and key notes.

Tervis was founded in 1946 in Sarasota, Florida, by Frank Cotter and his wife, with the aim of creating a durable and insulated drinking vessel. The first products were double-walled cups that used a novel insulating construction to keep drinks hot or cold without the outside of the cup becoming hot or cold. The use of plastic in production was innovative at the time and set Tervis apart from other manufacturers.

In the 1950s, the company experienced steady growth as the demand for practical and functional products increased. Tervis began offering its cups with various designs, logos, and themed motifs to appeal to a broader audience. These personalisation options contributed to the brand's popularity and sparked the interest of consumers looking for unique and individual drinking vessels.

In the following decades, Tervis expanded its range by introducing additional products such as bottles and tumblers. A significant development was the introduction of custom designs, allowing customers to choose their own motifs and images to personalise their Tervis products. This led to an increase in sales and solidified the brand as a leader in the field of double-walled drinking vessels.

In 2008, Tervis became an official licensee of the National Football League (NFL) as well as other sports leagues, further enhancing brand awareness. Since its inception, Tervis has received numerous awards and is now known for its high-quality, durable, and functional drinking vessels available in a variety of designs. The brand remains a family business and continues to be headquartered in Sarasota.
